Haz-Mat Team
Tuscarawas County Haz-Mat Team

The Tuscarawas County Haz-Mat team was formed in 1989, in response to an increase in hazardous materials calls to local fire departments.

The team is funded by the Tuscarawas County Commissioners. The Emergency Management Agency is responsible for team administration.

The Haz-Mat Team is comprised of Firefighters from the following Fire Departments in Tuscarawas County:

  • New Philadelphia FD
  • Mineral City VFD
  • Uhrichsville FD
  • Dover FD

The Haz-Mat Team currently has 19 volunteer team members trained to the Technician Level.

HAZ-MAT TEAM OFFICERS: The following team members volunteer to serve as Team Coordinator and Control Officers. The Team Coordinator and Officers donate many off-duty hours for training courses, meetings, and keeping the Haz-Mat trucks and equipment in service during the year.

Team Coordinator:
  • Shane Wells is a Firefighter Paramedic with the Dover Fire Department
Control Officers:
  • Jason Ely is a Firefighter with the Mineral City Fire Department
  • Brian Stewart is a Firefighter Paramedic with the Dover Fire Department
  • Jason Bambeck is a Firefighter Paramedic with the Dover Fire Department

The Haz-Mat Team responds to incidents in order to perform mitigation and corrective actions. The team is not involved with clean up operations. All clean up duties will be turned over to the responsible party causing the spill and/or a certified clean up contractor.
