Tuscarawas County Haz-Mat Team

In 1989 after an increase in Hazardous Materials calls, the Tuscarawas County Commissioners formed by resolution the Tuscarawas County Haz-Mat Team.

The Haz-Mat Team is funded by and accountable to the Tuscarawas County Commissioners and the Tuscarawas County Local Emergency Planning Committee, with the Emergency Management Agency being responsible for administration of the team.

The Haz-Mat Team is comprised of Firefighters from the following Fire Departments in Tuscarawas County:

Bolivar FD Mineral City VFD Tusc.-Warwick VFD
Dennison FD New Philadelphia FD Uhrichsville FD
Dover FD Strasburg VFD  

The Haz-Mat Team currently has 21 volunteer team members trained to the Technician Level as described in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, NFPA 471, 472, USEPA 40 CFR 311.

HAZ-MAT TEAM OFFICERS:  The following team members volunteer to serve as Team Coordinator and Team Leaders.  The Team Coordinator and Leaders donate many off-duty hours for training courses, meetings, and keeping the Haz-Mat trucks and equipment in service during the year.

TEAM COORDINATOR:

Jim Roudebush is a Firefighter Paramedic with the Dover Fire Department

TEAM LEADERS:

Rick Kinsey is a Firefighter with the Uhrichsville Fire Department

Shane Wells is a Firefighter Paramedic with the Dover Fire Department
Jason Bambeck is a Firefighter Paramedic with the Dover Fire Department

All Haz-Mat Team members are placed under medical monitoring as required by OSHA.  The medical monitoring program is conducted under the supervision of the Tuscarawas County Haz-Mat Team Physician.

The Haz-Mat Team will respond to incidents and perform mitigation and corrective actions, to the level of the team members training.  The team is not involved with or do clean up operations.  All clean up duties will be turned over to the responsible party causing the spill and or a certified clean up contractor.
